About the position

An entry-level survey estimator assists in calculating the costs and resources required for construction and civil engineering projects, such as commercial sites, roads, utilities, and bridges. Working under a senior estimator, they perform quantity takeoffs and help prepare bid proposals.

Responsibilities:

• Perform quantity surveys, or "takeoffs," by analyzing blueprints, maps, and other technical documents to compile estimates.
• Assist in preparing and compiling data for bid proposals, and other project documentation.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, project managers, and suppliers to clarify project requirements.
• Use industry-standard software, including estimating programs, spreadsheets (like Microsoft Excel) and Blue Beam.

Requirements:

• Education in a technical field and experience reading plans with a strong mathematical and computer skills background through work experience or education.
• Prior Surveying or Estimating experience is a plus.
• Strong mathematical and analytical abilities are essential for performing accurate calculations.
• Estimators must be precise, as small errors in calculations can significantly impact the project's overall cost.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet software is a must, and experience with specific estimating or project management software is valuable.
• The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with team members and presenting estimates to stakeholders.
• The ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently is crucial for meeting deadlines.
• Problem-solving skills are needed to analyze documents and identify potential cost factors.
